In honor or my friend’s son who is deploying today, I ask for prayers. I am re-posting this article. My dear friend Katherine Harris Szerdy surprised me with this beautiful book. I wanted to share the first entry with you from Mrs. Leila Atwood Foust. Ninety-four years later the prayers from mothers are the same. Please pray for our troops and their families. Pray for peace.
Beautiful prayer for peace! And, today as I speak, our leaders are talking about how to deal with escalating tensions in many parts of the world. I’ve often thought that if women globally were in charge, we would see an end to war. We need to keep our voices strong.
Pat, you are so right!
A quote from Pope Francis:
“We have tried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been shattered; how many hopes have been buried. … But our efforts have been in vain. Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: ‘Never again war!’; ‘With war everything is lost.’
— Invocation for Peace, held with Presidents Shimon Peres of Israel and Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, Vatican Gardens, June 9, 2014
Oh so beautiful! So many thoughts flood my mind. History will continue to repeat itself if we don’t open our hearts and minds to new thoughts and solutions to the problems we face. The path to is through, love, compassion and forgiveness.
Thank you, Pat. Exactly right!
